Build Your Own Solar
Panel
Is it possible to build your own
solar panel? Yes, it is actually not that difficult either!
To build your own solar panel you
have a few options. Each option has it's place and it depends
on your level of interest and pocket book.
One is to buy a kit that supplies
everything you need, such as the photovoltaic cells, the
frame, the glazing, soldering irons, instructions, everything.
These kits are easy to use and a good starting place. The solar
panels are not that big though, and you won't be generating too
much solar energy. Larger do it yourself solar panel kits can
be purchased, but the cost can be prohibitive.
Another option is to figure out
everything on your own. Now, this could be done, but it would
take a long time, you will make many mistakes, and you need a
lot of persistence, for sure! Nevertheless, it is possible and
I know of at least one friend who actually became quite good at
this.
The
best option to build your own solar panel
In my opinion, the best option is
to purchase a kit online that tells you how to build your own solar panel. One reason this is
better is because you can easily obtain the necessary supplies
at your local hardware store and save money.
With the online kits you can get
video tutorials, which I really like. There are also written
instructions that explain the entire process as if you were a
complete novice. You can also discover how to get many of the
materials for free, such as the batteries.
Because the online kits are
written for the average homeowner, there is not a lot of
technical jargon to confuse you. After all, how many of us have
a Master's degree in Physics? If the average Joe or Jane can
build their own solar panel, you and I should be able as
well!
Children
can do this
Children can also make their own
solar panel. This is a great educational opportunity because it
is totally hands on and you get to see some cool results from
the experiment. To find out how, visit one of several websites
that have a guide on how to build your own solar panel. Of
course, the children will need adult supervision and help.
It is an amazing process to
change sunlight into usable electricity. When the child has a
hands on connection with the magic, it makes a huge impression
and can stimulate more interest in related areas.
Why build
your own solar panel?
One obvious reason is to save
money on your electric bill. With a minimum cash outlay, some
weekend work and effort, you actually will be able to reduce
your electric bill each and every month.
Another primary reason is to be
good to the earth and environment. With all the news about
climate change, pollution, and vanishing species, anything each
of us can do makes a difference. If enough people were to use
solar energy, our planet would be a much cleaner and safer
place.
You should build your own solar
panel if you want to save money, help the environment, and
reduce your carbon footprint.
